Accelerator

The Accelerator is our high-level GCSE Maths intervention for students who need to break through a plateau in their performance.

It is particularly suited to students who feel stuck at the same level, are capable of more than their current marks suggest, or have previously received tuition without seeing the grade improvement they expected.

Rather than simply providing more tuition, we take a highly targeted approach. We establish where the student is starting from, identify the specific bottlenecks causing marks to be lost, and focus the eight weeks on overcoming them.

That might include gaps in knowledge, difficulty applying methods, poor question interpretation, avoidable errors or exam technique.

The free Performance Review helps us establish whether this level of intervention is the right fit for your child.

Ordinary 1-to-1 tuition provides personalised support, but it is usually broader and more open-ended. Lessons may respond to schoolwork, homework, upcoming tests or topics that need attention over time.

The GCSE Maths Accelerator is a specialised, intensive intervention designed to identify and overcome the specific bottlenecks preventing a student from progressing.

We do not simply look at an overall score or guess what needs attention. We analyse how the student responds to a range of GCSE Maths questions, looking for patterns in where marks are being lost — including knowledge gaps, application, method selection, question interpretation, avoidable errors and exam technique.

That assessment evidence is then reviewed by a qualified secondary-school Mathematics teacher, helping us identify the key gaps and shape a tailored eight-week programme around the student's individual needs.

Ordinary tuition can support steady progress over time. The Accelerator is designed to be far more targeted and intensive, using real assessment data to direct the teaching towards the areas most likely to improve exam performance.

It is not simply more hours of tuition. It is a data-informed intervention focused precisely on what is holding the student back.

The Accelerator has been specifically designed to produce measurable improvement in GCSE Maths performance.

By identifying the precise reasons marks are being lost, focusing the 1-to-1 teaching on those areas, reinforcing the learning through Exam Mastery and reassessing the student at the end, we are highly confident that a student who engages fully with the programme should make meaningful progress.

If a student attends consistently, completes the agreed practice and follows the programme properly, we would be very surprised to see no improvement in their mathematical understanding or exam performance over the eight weeks.

GCSE grades ultimately depend on the student's performance in the final examination, so a specific grade cannot responsibly be promised. Our focus is on improving the things that drive the grade — knowledge, application, method selection, accuracy, confidence and exam technique.

The baseline is designed to establish your child's starting point and, more importantly, identify where marks are being lost and why.

We analyse how the student approaches a variety of GCSE Maths questions rather than simply looking at whether an answer is right or wrong. This can expose:

• gaps in mathematical knowledge
• difficulty applying knowledge to exam questions
• method selection
• question interpretation
• avoidable errors and accuracy
• exam technique

The findings are reviewed by a qualified secondary-school Mathematics teacher and used to help determine where the eight weeks should focus first.

Where your child already has a recent school mock or reliable working grade, this can be used alongside the diagnostic assessment. Where no recent benchmark is available, a fuller exam paper may be used to establish current exam performance.

The Accelerator is an intensive 1-to-1 programme.

On the Academy pathway, tuition is delivered by a carefully selected London Tuition Academy tutor, with academic oversight from our founder. Every baseline is personally reviewed by our founder to help identify where marks are being lost and where the teaching should focus.

For families who want the highest level of direct involvement, a premium Founder-Led pathway is also available, where the 1-to-1 tuition is delivered directly by our founder — a practising UK secondary-school Mathematics teacher with over 10 years of teaching experience.

Both pathways also include Exam Mastery alongside the private tuition.

Yes. Every Accelerator student receives eight weeks of Exam Mastery at no additional cost alongside their 1-to-1 tuition.

Exam Mastery is our live small-group GCSE Maths programme for 3–8 students, centred around regular exam-question practice, application, method, accuracy and exam technique.

Across the eight weeks, this provides an additional 12 hours of guided GCSE Maths exam practice, helping reinforce the work being done individually.

At the standard Exam Mastery rate, eight weeks represents £390 of additional value, included as part of the Accelerator.

For some students, eight focused weeks may be enough to give them the knowledge, confidence and direction they need to continue preparing independently without further tuition.

Others may choose to continue with support.

Students can move into Exam Mastery, our small-group GCSE Maths programme for 3–8 students, to maintain regular exam-question practice, or continue with personalised 1-to-1 tuition where appropriate.

The final reassessment helps us identify what has improved, what may still need attention and the most sensible next step.

The Accelerator is built around the individual student rather than a fixed weekly syllabus, so students can begin at different points during the academic year.

If the programme is being used in preparation for school mocks or the final GCSE examinations, we recommend starting early enough for the student to apply and consolidate the improvements before the exam.
